I cut my teeth on this river twenty years ago. It has every river situation one can ask for. The gradient is very good so you will find plenty of riffle-pool combinations. There are some clay shelves, but usually gives away to gravel. Back in the day, it held native brook trout(still does in select upstream creeks) and holds good amounts of spring water due to the sandy water table. I have watched the river heal itself after 100 years of abuse. More and more gravel fills in the clay areas. As a matter of fact, there are three gravel companies that operate on it's shores. It is easily a 50/50 clay to gravel mix. The river has healed so much that upstream and downstream sections easily mirror each other in bottom composition and structure.
