Now what makes the Rocky different from the others is the composition. The Rocky is almost all shale. I'd say 80/20 clay to gravel. Now, this would and does frustrate many steelheaders. But, if you spend time on the river, you will find those few places of gravel patches with good depth and current. When you do, you can be sure the fish are herded up there. The "Rock" has a medium gradient and some second tier shelves. This means there is a lot of "flat" water that is unproductive(great summer smallmouth areas). The Rock is surrounded by forest and city, so it tends to muddy quickly, but clears up consistently. All that shale does hold fish well, so clear water fishing is still productive.
